Football in Brockham

Eric Bookham:

Brockham United was kept running during the War by Jack Rammage. Eric Bookham played for them after war service and moving to the village after marrying a local girl. Over the years they had a number of venues to play their games: Coach Road both on the left on Pondtail farm and on the right in what is now the land owned by Riverdale. Maurice Keen a Betchworth farmer allowed them to have some land in Kiln Lane on the left after the houses. They also played in Wheelers Lane where Warrene Road is before finding that all the land had been ploughed to make way for housing. The team then moved to the new Recreation Ground in Middle Street. I served on the committee of the Redhill and District league for fifty years eventually being given the honour of President.
